HARARE, Zimbabwe, CMC – West Indies sneaked into next year’s World Cup in England but barely, after needing the fortune of Duckworth-Lewis to beat Scotland by five runs in their final Super Six match of the ICC World Cup qualifiers here today.
The two-time former World champions were bundled out for a paltry 198 after being asked to bat first at Harare Sports Club, despite half-centuries form opener Evin Lewis (66) and veteran Marlon Samuels (51).
New-ball bowlers Safyaan Sharif (3-27) and Brad Wheal (3-34) were brilliant, both claiming three wickets apiece to wreck the Windies innings.
In reply, Scotland had reached 125 for five off in the 36th over when the rains arrived, ending the contest prematurely.
Under DLS, they were five runs short of the par score of 130.
Richie Berrington top-scored with 33 while George Munsey was unbeaten on 32.
Fast bowler Kemar Roach (2-20) and off-spinner Ashley Nure (2-35) finished with two wickets each.
