Georgetown romped to a five-wicket win over West Demerara at the Everest Cricket Club ground yesterday in the first round of the Demerara Under-19 Inter-Association cricket tournament.
Georgetown restricted West Demerara to 148 all out with Diquan Bamfield picking up four wickets then returned to chase down the total led by a fine half century from Adrian Hinds.
Andre Seepersaud was once again the backbone of the West Demerara batting line up.
There was a slight disruption when rain fell with only eight overs bowled
but it lasted all but two minutes and when it ended, opener Kennard Moonsammy (21) was the first to dismissed playing a straight ball from Bamfield to the man at cover while his opening partner, Troy Persaud edged Wayne Bollers to the wicketkeeper for four.
Usardiva Balgobin was unfortunate to glove a lifting delivery high on the bat but a good piece of fielding by the man at cover led to his dismissal off Bamfield.
Aditya Persaud departed for only one but Seepersaud partnered with Navindra Persaud to take the score from 49-4 to 87.
But Persaud was dismissed by Miller for 19 and though Seepersaud brought up his half century he received no support from the tail.
Derrick Foo found Nkosie Beaton’s off spin unplayable, surviving four appeals (two LBW and two caught behind) before he was trapped LBW.
Bamfield ended with 4-32 and Miller 2-2.
In reply, Georgetown lost Ghansiam Persaud by the run out route but Hinds scored 63 and received support from Christopher Campbell (32) and Adolphus Bookie (11) as Demerara completed the easy win.
