Guyana is scheduled to host group-E of the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) Caribbean Women’s Qualifiers, during the month of May.
The Guyanese will host the trio of Bermuda, Barbados and Suriname in the 23 team tournament. The other nations slated to host are Dominican Republic, Haiti, Trinidad and Tobago and Antigua and Barbuda.
The event features a round-robin format, with the respective winners advancing to the final round of group action in August.
The top three teams from the final group round will then qualify for the CONCACAF Women’s Championship, slated for October in the United States of America.
According to an official release from the Guyana Football Federation (GFF), Women’s Development Officer Tricia Munroe said, “I’m extremely happy that Guyana will be hosting Group E and our senior women’s team will have the opportunity to play international football. Women’s football in Guyana is still in its developmental stages but we are looking at the CFU Women’s Challenge Series Tournament in April as a means of preparation for this major tournament. Match time is crucial for players’ development so our aim is to have the team exposed to as many national and international matches as possible to maintain the consistency of play.”
