KINGSTON, Jamaica, CMC – Guyana and Jamaica remained unbeaten while title-holders Barbados notched their maiden win, in the second round of the Regional Under-15 Championship here Thursday.
Playing at Melbourne Oval, Jamaica defeated Leeward Islands by 79 runs, to follow up their victory in Wednesday’s opening round.
Opting to bat first, they were dismissed for 148 in the 43rd over with middle order batsman Jonathan Rampersaud keeping the innings together with a top score of 69.
Guyana were floundering at 21 for four before Rampersaud posted 70 for the fifth wicket with Nicholas Rajpat (17).
Fast bowler Hilroy Andrew was the best bowler with four for 22 while Glen Williams picked up three for 21.
In reply, the Leewards crumbled for 69 in the 25th over with Jeremy Sandia (3-20) and Chanderpaul Ramraj (2-3) among the wickets.
At Kensington Park, Jamaica also won their second straight when they got the better of Trinidad and Tobago by 20 runs.
Sent in, Jamaica got 149 off 46 overs, with Sanjay Walker again among the runs with 45 and Javon Nembhard scoring 27, the pair adding 51 for the fourth wicket.
Wrist spinner Jordan Johnson then tore through the T&T batting to finish with five for 35, as the innings wilted for 129 in the 43rd over.
At Chedwin Park, Barbados recovered from their opening round loss to arch-rivals Trinidad to beat Windward Islands by seven wickets.
Asked to chase 118, they reached their target off 30 overs with Micaiah Simmons hitting an unbeaten 37 and captain Nimar Bolden scoring 36.
They combined in a 64-run third wicket stand to pull the innings around from 53 for two.
