The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) defeated Malteenoes by six wickets on the back of an excellent display of seam bowling from former West Indies U 16 fast bowler Qumar Torrington in the latest round of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) New York Tri-State U19 Cup at DCC, yesterday.
Malteenoes, who won the toss and elected to bat, found themselves facing a stern examination from Torrington who took the first three wickets to leave the visitors staring down the barrel early on.
Wayne Bollers, though, played the lone hand by stroking his maiden half-century to ensure his side got past the 100-run mark as they laboured to 125 before being dismissed in the 46th over.
Bollers was refreshing to watch in a knock of 51, which included five sweetly timed fours before being the last man dismissed.
Skipper Jeremiah Scott (11) and Ntini Permaul (10) were the only other men to reach double figures. Torrington ended with 4 – 28 from 10 overs.
Nkosi Beaton (2-11) and Sagar Hathiramani (2-21) were the other wicket-takers for the host who then rocketed to 127 – 4 in 20.1 overs.
The star-studded lineup, which featured several West Indies youth players, wasted no time as Sachin Singh (26) and Joshua Persaud (15) went about their innings in 20/20 like fashion before Hathiramani, and Jerrick Persaud combined for an unbeaten 44-run, sixth-wicket stand, scoring 25 and 15 respectively to see their side home.
Seamer Collis Rimple took 2 – 9 in a losing cause.
