(Jamaica Gleaner) Detectives are trying to track down members of a criminal network who went on a shopping spree with just over $1.3 million allegedly stolen from the credit card account of Police Commissioner Major General Antony Anderson before he took up office last month.
Investigators believe the thieves created two cloned credit cards that were linked to Anderson’s account.
According to one investigator, over a one-week period starting in late February, the cloned credit cards were used to rack up purchases totalling $1.3 million.
Among the items purchased were car rims and several appliances.
The police report, too, that 44-year-old businessman Earl Hobins has been arrested and charged in connection with the scheme.
Hobins was arrested by the Police Fraud Squad after it was revealed that $83,000 from the cloned credit cards was used to pay the school fee for his son at a prominent high school.
He appeared in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court last Thursday and had his bail extended. Hobins is to return to court on May 1.
