A teenager is among three persons who were taken into custody on Friday morning following the discovery of three firearms and a quantity of live rounds and cannabis in Sophia.
A police source told Stabroek News that the three males were arrested during an intelligence-led operation and they are suspected to be part of a “gun trading” ring.
The Guyana Police Force, in a press release, said among the items seized during the operation were a .40 Taurus pistol with six live rounds, two .32 special revolvers with four live rounds and 79 grammes of cannabis sativa.
Divisional Commander Edmond Cooper yesterday told Stabroek News that his ranks are working to establish the origin of the guns.
The police release also said that one of the three suspects is at the centre of an armed robbery investigation following an attack committed on a Sophia resident on Thursday evening. While details surrounding the robbery were unclear, this newspaper was told that following the arrests yesterday, the suspect was positively identified as being the perpetrator of the robbery.
