Despite winning a gold medal in the long jump at the FLOW CARIFTA Games in The Bahamas last weekend, long jumper Chantoba Bright could miss out on this year’s International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) World U20 championships.
The region’s top U20 female long jumper, Bright, who produced a gold medal performance (5.95m) at the CARIFTA Games last year and this past weekend, has until July 2 to achieve the entry standard of 6.15m to compete at the event scheduled for July 10-15 in Tampere, Finland.
Bright has a career best of 6.30m in the long jump event.
However, Sprinters, Kenisha Phillips (200m), Daniel Williams (200m) and Deshana Skeete (400m) all made the IAAF qualifying standards.
Phillips clocked 24.14s in the female U20 200m, Williams ran 21.21 seconds in the male U20 200m and Skeete clocked 54.15s in the female U17 400m.
The entry standard for the respective events at the U-20 Championships are 24.20s, 21.35s and 55.0s.
Williams recorded his personal best in the half lap event last weekend finishing fifth, while Skeete also had a personal milestone in her race to capture the bronze medal.
