Additional police ranks were yesterday dispatched to the Black Water Backdam, Cuyuni River site where a Dominican Republic national was shot and killed during a robbery on Friday.
Divisional Commander (ag) Kevin Adonis told Sunday Stabroek that the ranks were dispatched to the area yesterday morning and were obtaining statements up to last evening.
“The first group was sent there specifically to bring out the body,” Adonis said, referring to ranks who were dispatched on Friday.
The Guyana Police Force, in a statement issued yesterday, said that the owner of the camp where the incident occurred has since provided “much needed aerial support,” which has resulted in investigators and ranks from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Tactical Services Unit (TSU) being flown to the area.
Rosario, 55, a miner, was shot and killed around 2 am on Friday when bandits invaded the mining camp and stole a quantity of gold.
The camp is owned by a Kitty resident.
The police had said that initial investigations had revealed that Rosario was shot when one of the three suspects pounced and discharged a round.
The suspects, the police said, then proceeded to the dredge, held the other employees at gunpoint and removed two mats from the sluice box before escaping.
