A 22-ball 69 from opener Akshay Homraj spurred the New York/Tri State XI (NY) to a six-wicket victory over the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) Select XI in the one-off, T20 match at the Demerara Cricket Club ground yesterday.
Winning the toss and electing to bat, GCA XI managed just 130-7 from their 20 overs while NY finished off a successful chase with a massive six to close on 135-4 with an over to spare.
The fans turned out in their numbers to witness the match and Everest all-rounder, Ariel Tilku batting at six, gave them their money’s worth.
Tilku smashed four boundaries and a six on his way to a fighting 43 before missing a quicker one that skidded into his stumps from off spinner Raymond Ramrattan, breaking a 50-run partnership with Anthony Antonio.
Antonio soon followed for 19 but it was an 18-run cameo from Everest’s Raynaldo Mohamed that pushed GCA XI to a competitive total.
Travis Ross, Gotham Ravindran and Travis Ross picked up two wickets each.
However, Homraj spared no bowler. He took a particular liking to left arm orthodox spinner Mohamed, whom he struck for 23 runs in the eighth over, including three of his five sixes.
Ross added support with 21 but it was all done and dusted despite Wayne Bollers efforts that eventually earned him 2-19.
