Orchestrated around a ferocious batting performance, hosts, the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) defeated Transport Sports Club (TSC) by 86 runs in the final of the Guyana Diabetic Association/Georgetown Cricket Association U17 T20 competition Saturday evening.
DCC, sent into to bat first, raced to 45 without loss at the end of the first Power play.
Opener Thameshwar Permaul after a sedate start, tore into seamer Daniel Goolad, lifting him off his pads for two maximums which landed in the pavilion.
Permaul’s partner Brandon Jaikarran, played the supporting the role and got his innings going with a scintillating cover drive for four as the duo brought up DCC’s 50 in the seventh over.
Permaul duly brought up his 50 in the 10thover as DCC moved to 78 without loss at that stage.
The duo sustained the aggression and found the fence with relative ease, pushing the score to 93 before Permaul fell for a blistering knock of 62 in the 14th over.
His innings included eight fours and three sixes.
Jaikarran and Skipper Sachin Singh then added 36 quick runs before Jaikarran fell for 40.
Singh, whose innings included five fours and one six, was unbeaten on 41 while Garrick Persaud (20) launched three maximums to carry the score to 188 – 3 at the end of the 20 overs.
Joshua Blackman (1-14), Kishore Seepersaud (1-20) and Davenand Khemraj (1-37) were the principal wicket-takers.
TSC, lost two wickets for 22 with 20 of those runs coming from the bat of opener
Shivanand Gossain who was looking quite ominous.
However, the DCC spinners pegged things back as TSC reached 55 for three at the halfway point.
They eventually ended on 102 for eight at the end of the allotted overs.
Shamar Yearwood (15) and Kishore Seepersaud (14) were the other batsmen to show any fight as spinners Inderjit Nana (2-3), Jaarar Pinder (2-14) and Ezekiel Wilson (2-19) effectively bowled their side to the title.
Daniel Mootoo’s (DCC) 5-25 against St Stanislaus College saw him copping the award for the best bowling figures of the tournament.
He also received an award for ending the tournament with the most wickets, 10.
Singh (DCC) ended the competition with the highest score, 96 made against St Stanislaus while his tally of 149 runs at an average 149 earned him another award.
Singh’s batting exploits, along with his four wickets, saw him adjudged MVP for Zone A while Khemraj (TSC) was adjudged MVP for Zone B after scoring 69 runs to go along with his seven wickets. He also took three catches.
