A homeless man was yesterday sentenced to 18 months in jail for the theft of a water pump.
Andrew Arjune admitted to the charge that on April 5th, 2018, at Kitty Seawall, he stole a $200,000 Honda water pump, which was the property of Deonauth Lalta.
Arjune pleaded guilty to the charge and told Georgetown magistrate Judy Latchman, “Just begging you, please, if you can help me out.”
The police’s case is that on the day in question police ranks were on patrol duty when they saw the accused walking south along Vlissengen Road with the water pump on his shoulder. As a result, he was stopped by the ranks and questioned about how he obtained the pump and he admitted that he stole it.
In handing down the 18-month sentence, Magistrate Latchman told Arjune that she considered the fact that he was previously warned before by the court when he appeared for a similar charge.
