Six men held following attempted Supply robbery

Six men are in police custody following their arrest and the finding of two 9 MM Glock Pistols – one serial number filed out –  along with twenty-two live rounds, one Beretta Pistol with eleven live rounds, one 32 Taurus  Pistol – serial number filed out – with six live rounds, one sledge hammer, two pairs of latex gloves and trade plates at a Police road block last night on the Grove Public Road, East Bank Demerara.

CCJ dismisses appeal by Belizean CLICO policyholders

The Caribbean Court Justice (CCJ) last Thursday dismissed an appeal by six former CLICO Belizean policyholders whose contention it was that their financial loss from the company’s 2009 liquidation was the result of the Supervisor of Insurance, Alma Gomez’s reckless handling of the Company.

Dear Editor, Professor Justice Duke Pollard’s letter ‘Lowe’s conclusion on case before CCJ was spurious’(Stabroek News, March 21, 2018), which criticizes Mr Sherwood Lowe for expressing his views in a letter ‘Mendez has shifted the CCJ gaze from Article 1 to Article 9 of the Constitution’ (Stabroek News, March 19, 2018), exposes the fact that Professor Pollard is ‘singing for his supper’ – moreso when you consider that he attempts to discount the views of a Guyanese, who has not been pro-PPP, but has been consistent in his expressions since I first met him in the early 2000s.
