Guyana’s Troy Doris has jumped his way into tomorrow’s final of the Men’s Triple Jump at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Australia.
The USA based Doris hopped, skipped and jumped to 16.33m yesterday, to clinch a finals berth at the 21st edition of the Games being staged on the Gold Coast.
Doris, who turned 29 yesterday, placed second in Group A behind Yordanys Duranona Garcia of Dominica whose best jump of the qualifying round was a leap of 16.75m.
Doris, a finalist at the 2016 Olympic Games, is seeded fifth heading into the finale and has a good chance of snaring Guyana’s first triple jump medal at the prestigious Games.
In the seeding, he is behind Garcia and narrowly trails the top three jumpers from Group B, India’s Arpinder Singh (16.39m), Namibia’s Roger Haitengi (16.36m) and Muhammad Hakimi Ismail (16.36m) of Malaysia.
