Guyana’s racket wielders hopes for a place on the podium at the Gold Coast, Commonwealth Games, ended yesterday, after the table tennis duo of Trenace Lowe, and Natalie Cummings were knocked out.
The duo, playing in the Women’s Doubles category, lost to Mengyu Yu and Tianwei Feng of Singapore, in straight sets 11-3, 11-2, 11-4.
Meanwhile, in squash, Sunil Seth and Jason Ray Khalil won their Men’s Doubles match against Zambia’s Manda Chilambwe and Kelvin Ndhlovu, two sets to one before losing to Australia in the round of 16.
The Guyanese pair in their match against the Zambians, took the first set 11-8, before dropping the second 10 – 11. However, they held on to win a close final set 11-10, to book a meeting with Australians Cameron Pilley and Ryan Cuskelly.
The hometown pair ended Guyana’s chances of medaling with a combative two-set win, taking the match 11-9, 11-7 to send the Guyanese packing. (Royston Alkins)
