President Guards (PG) trounced ‘G’ Division by 10 wickets while Headquarters (HQ) overcame ‘F’ Division in the semifinals of the Police Commissioner’s T20 Cup at Police Ground, Eve Leary on Thursday to book their finals showdown today.
In the first encounter, `G’ Division batted first and posted 129-9 from their allotted overs.
PG, in reply, chased down the total reaching 130 without loss in 16 overs thanks to half centuries from the two openers, Kevin Allicock and Paul Tyndall.
`G’ Division were indebted to cameos from Charleston Roberts and Duane Braithwaite who scored 18 and 17 runs respectively at the top of the order, hitting two boundaries each.
However, it took a 10-ball 22 from Shakel Vyphius coming in at eight to send the `G’ Division total over the 100-run mark.
In reply, belligerent batting from Allicock and Tyndall ensured the job was completed with ease.
Every `G’ Division bowler was taken to task and there were two 19-run overs from Vyphius and Roopnarine Ramnarine.
Allicock struck four fours and three sixes while Tyndall thumped five fours and four sixes to finish unbeaten in 55 and 69 respectively.
Meanwhile, in the second semifinal, `F’ Division posted 152-8 while HQ reached 154-4 with two overs to spare.
B. Frank blasted six boundaries while Lennox Andrews effortlessly sent four balls down to the boundary ropes for scores of 36 and 30 respectively to build on the 29 by Shiveshwar Sankar and 13 from Michael Jobe before they were removed by a rampant Troy Benn who finished with 3-19 from his four overs.
In reply, opening batsman Kevon Boodie separated himself from the rest with a masterclass innings of 85 consisting of 14 fours and three sixes.
He shared a 137-run partnership with Dwayne Dodson who fell four short of his half century trapped leg before wicket to Vishal Jaigobin.
The final will be played at the same venue with the first ball to be bowled at 11:00h
