The Select U17 cricketers ended day one of the Hand-in-Hand Mutual Fire and Life Insurance/Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) U19 Inter-County three-day match against Berbice on 76-4, trailing by 100 runs at stumps at the Everest Cricket Club ground, Camp Road.
The day began with Berbice winning the toss and electing to bat.
They subsequently found themselves tottering on 55-5 after seamer Sheldon Charles and Sylvan Williams produced a steady opening burst.
They, however, scrapped to 176 all out after number seven batsman Trevor Stanislaus and Leon Swamy both scored 47 in a lower order fight back.
Stanislaus’s innings included six fours and two sixes while Swamy laced three sixes and a four to give their bowlers a total to work with.
Charles, for his efforts, ended with 3-30 and was the pick of the bowlers while leg-spinner Niran Bissu had 2-12 and five other bowlers had a wicket apiece.
The U17’s in their first innings reply, lost national U15 opener Mavendra Dindyal (7) caught behind off the bowling of seamer Kevlon Anderson with the score on 7-1.
Wickets at crucial points, including those of skipper Sachin Singh (15) and Seon Glasgow (18) saw the juniors ending the day one on 76 – 4, trailing Berbice by 100.
Andrew Seepersaud is unbeaten on 25 after carving out three fours and with him is Schultz on 1.
