A Lethem man was yesterday remanded to prison for the alleged murder of a Brazilian miner, who was fatally chopped on Sunday.
The charge alleged that Brian Reid, 33, on April 15th at Quartz Stone, Far Backdam, Cuyuni River, murdered Adrian Sousa Santos.
Reid was not required to plead to the indictable charge.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan adjourned the matter until May 10th, when it will be heard at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court.
The Brazilian was reportedly chopped twice on his right hand during an altercation. He reportedly collapsed and bled to death before he was transported to a hospital.
Police had previously said that he was chopped during an argument with the accused over a woman, who is said to be Reid’s fiancée.
