The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) and the Transport Sports Club (TSC) were second-round winners in the V-Net little champs under – 13, 25 overs pair cricket, played at the Muslim Youth Organization (MYO) ground on Saturday last.
DCC in the first encounter, got past arch rivals the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) by 178 runs.
GCC batted first and compiled 173, after deductions at the end of their 25 overs.
Daniel Persaud (19) and Alex Balgobin (12) were the top scorers for GCC as Jayden Dowlin (3-10), Myhiem Khan (2-5) and Romeo Deonarine (2-10) ended as the pick of the bowlers for DCC who in their turn at the crease made 351 after deductions at the end of their 25 overs. Eleven-year-old wicket-keeper batsman Jonathan Van Lange led the way with 35 while Khan returned to post 26 for the eventual winners.
Persaud (1-11) and Munesh Jairam (1-21) ticked the wickets column for GCC.
TSC, on the other hand, edged past Bel Air Rubis by six runs. Bel Air Rubis won the toss and elected to bat and eventually made 314 after 12 dismals with their eventual total being 196.
Joshua Alves (24) and Ganesh Singh (18) were the chief contributors as extras contributed 28 to the total.
Alvin Mohabir (3-8) and Stephon Sankar (2-9) did the damage for TSC who in their turn at the crease, made 322 after 12 dismals, eventually ending on 202 after the mandatory deductions were made.
Riyad Latif (12) and Dave Mohabir (11) top-scored for TSC who were buffed by 71 runs which came via extras.
Singh who returned to snare 3-10 and Alves (2-8) were the main wicket takers for Bel Air.
Each team at the beginning of their innings starts with a total of 200 runs while batsmen bat in pairs each facing five overs between men. A deduction of 10 runs is then made every time a batsman is dismissed during a pair’s five overs at the middle.
