The Police Sports Club (PSC) continued their impressive run in this year’s Noble House Seafoods second-division, two-day tournament, after compiling 323 before being dismissed on the stroke of stumps on day one in their final group match against the University of Guyana (UG) at the Gandhi Youth Organization ground, yesterday.
PSC, who are the current table toppers in their group, won the toss and elected to bat.
The lawmen received the ideal start from openers Andrew Lyght – Jr., (34) and Reginal Rodrigues (36) who added 43 for the opening stand.
Lyght Jr., carved out four fours and two maximums in another breezy knock while Rodrigues, the more sedate of the two, eased his way to six fours.
The day, however, belonged to Chemroy Kendall who hammered 73 in a knock decorated with eight fours and four maximums.
He struck the ball cleanly over the long-on region and was especially harsh on the spinners.
Wicketkeeper-batsman Kemol Savory (54) also scored a fifty with four fours and the same number of maximums while Jason Heyliger (38) was the other batsman to record a score of over 30.
The wickets for the students were shared between seamer Lloyd George who captured 3 for 87 from 16 overs while off-spinner Dwayne Dodson ended with 3-14 from three overs in a spell where he cleaned up the tail.
Keron Sewnarine (2-69) also contributed to the law men’s dismal. Play resumes today at 11:00 am with UG set to commence their first innings response.
