A 21-year-old Albouystown man was yesterday ordered to do community service after he admitted to assaulting a city constabulary officer and using indecent language.
Aubrey Hodge was charged with unlawfully assaulting a city police on April 12th, 2018, at Brickdam.
It was also alleged that Hodge made use of indecent language on the same date at Brickdam.
Hodge pleaded guilty to both charges.
City Police Prosecutor James Goodman told Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan that on the day in question at about 8.45 am, Constable Persaud was on patrol duty on Brickdam when the defendant and another person were having a loud confrontation. Goodman related that Hodge was heard saying, “I don’t have no time with no (expletive) body! Nobody can’t (expletive) arrest me.”
He added that the constable then approached Hodge and asked him to desist before subsequently arresting him.
Hodge then told the court that he did not assault the city police but just pushed the officer’s hand away when he was trying to hold him.
Meanwhile, a 29-year-old vendor was separately charged with obstructing the same rank from carrying out his duties.
The charge stated that Tremaine Mackenzie on April 12th at Brickdam obstructed a city constabulary officer in doing his job.
Mackenzie pleaded guilty to the charge.
Goodman stated that Mackenzie placed himself between Hodge and the city constable, thereby causing Hodge to make good his escape.
Chief Magistrate McLennan ordered Hodge to do six weeks of community service or in default serve a three-week sentence, while Mackenzie was ordered to pay a $5,000 fine or in default serve a three-week sentence.
