Thoroughbred racing returns to the Rising Sun Turf Club tomorrow for the second leg of the Jumbo Jet Thoroughbred Racing Committee Triple Crown Series.
Following the first leg on April 1 at the Port Mourant Turf Club, anticipation is fever pitched for the second installment of the lucrative event, the first of its kind ever held in Guyana.
According to organizer of the fixture, Nasrudeen Mohamed Jr., despite the recent inclement weather, a damper has not been placed on the event and all systems have been given the green light.
Guyana’s premier stables have prepared their champion race horses to peak once again tomorrow for a chance to ride away with the winner’s spoils.
Mohamed noted that in excess of 70 horses inclusive of Just Call Me Boss, Princess She is Not, Vera’s Finally and Jackin My Style will be saddled.
The horses finished 1-4 in the first leg of the series in the feature C and Lower 1200m event which had a winner’s take of $1M.
Mohamed who owns Vera’s Finally said yesterday that his champion horse will be returning with “blood in her eyes” tomorrow.
“I think Just Call Me Boss and Princess She is Not will have to run their legs off on Sunday. Vera’s coming back with blood in her eyes.”
The seven-race card will also include events for trotters in the F Class and lower, Three-Year old Guyana Bred, H and Lower, J/K and lower, K Class non earners and L and lower.
Mohamed noted that horses will not be promoted nor demoted for any events in their classes until after the final fixture. “This is to give the horses a chance to win the bonus and to be crowned the Triple Crown champion in their respective classes.”
Horses winning all three events will receive a bonus but a pre-entry fee of $5000 is a prerequisite to receive the extra incentive. The winners of the Triple Crown is set to collect up to $500,000 extra.
Lucky turfites will have the chance to be involved in a raffle which offers very attractive prizes like a 2011 Nissan Tiida, a 125cc motorcycle, a Samsung 40″ Smart TV, two Samsung cell phones, a stove, a microwave and a refrigerator.
Meanwhile, Banks DIH Limited and the Trophy Stall will continue to be the main sponsors of the mega event.
Action starts at 12:30hrs. VIP tickets cost $6000 while general admission is $1500.
