Workers on Saturday morning averted what could have been a major disaster at the Ministry of Public Health’s Brickdam, Georgetown offices, where a fire erupted.
A Guyana Fire Service official said on Saturday that the fire started around 6 am.
This newspaper was told that a ministry driver noticed smoke coming from a section of the building.
As a result, he immediately raised an alarm.
Upon checking, the driver and a security guard discovered that a ventilation fan above one of the washroom facilities was on fire.
They then formed a bucket brigade and put out the flames. By the time members of the Guyana Fire Service arrived at the scene, the fire had already been extinguished.
