An argument over the use of a toilet landed a teen before a city court on an attempted murder charge yesterday.
Calvin George, 19, of Grove, East Bank Demerara, was read a charge which stated that on April 11th, at Kaneville, East Bank Demerara, with intent to commit murder, he wounded Orin Peters.
George was not required to enter a plea to the indictable charge, which was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.
Police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that on the day in question, the two men had an argument over the use of a toilet in Peters’ yard. As a result, George reportedly became annoyed, armed himself with a knife and attacked Peters.
Peters suffered injuries to his abdomen as a result of the attack.
Mansfield made no objections to bail being granted but requested that it be substantial and that conditions be applied.
The Chief Magistrate then granted the accused his release on $200,000 bail. He was also ordered to lodge his passport, not to contact the complainant or witnesses or cause anyone to contact the complainant or any witnesses in the matter, and to report to the Grove Police Station every Friday until the completion of the trial. The matter was then adjourned until May 18th.
