Jamal John braved the elements and emerged winner of Sunday’s 75-mile road race from Homestretch Avenue to Long Creek (on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway) and back.
In the third points race of the season which was organized by the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF), the Team Coco’s standout led Team Evolution’s Chris Griffith and Alonzo Ambrose (Team Alanis) onto the podium.
John, stopped the clock in the grueling event in three hours, 11 minutes and 42 seconds for the event which attracted 14 starters.
The tireless wheelsman earned a maximum 15 points for his efforts. Griffith, his breakaway mate earned 12 points while Ambrose racked up 10.
Deeraj Garbarran (eight points) of United We Stand and Griffith’s club mate, Paul DeNobrega (six points) placed fourth and fifth respectively in the road race which was competed in rainy weather.
Junior Nile who placed sixth was the first veteran rider across the line.
