A Covent Garden dredge owner was on Monday released on $160,000 bail after he denied stealing half a million dollars in foodstuff in 2016.
The charge alleged that Michael Boodhoo, 58, stole two boxes containing food items and beverages, valued at $500,000 and which was the property of Lisa McDonald, on December 23rd, 2016, at Avenue of the Republic.
Boodhoo denied the allegation.
The police say that on the day in question Boodhoo was hired as a taxi driver by McDonald, who placed boxes with foodstuff in his vehicle. It is claimed that McDonald, who was later removing the boxes from the vehicle, took a bathroom break and when she returned the accused along with her boxes were gone.
Boodhoo’s attorney, George Thomas, stated that his client was not a taxi driver at the time when it is claimed that he committed the crime. He then stated in his application for bail that his client was not a flight risk and would comply with whatever conditions the court applied.
After Police Prosecutor Arvin Moore made no objections to bail being granted, Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman granted Boodhoo his release on $160,000 bail and adjourned the matter until May 14th.
