A West La Penitence man was stabbed to death in Prashad Nagar yesterday morning after an alleged attempt by him to steal a bird from another man.
Dead is Shelton Jordan, 21, who was known as ‘Mickel’ and ‘Yankee’ of Lot 35 West La Penitence.
The man who stabbed him, meanwhile, was taken into custody after making a report to the police.
The fatal encounter occurred around 5.35 am in front of the Guyana Power and Light Incorporated’s power station at Ganges Street, Prashad Nagar, Georgetown, where Jordan, who was riding in the area, reportedly attempted to snatch the man’s caged bird.
In a press statement, the police said initial investigations reveal that the suspect and Jordan had an argument over the bird.
It is alleged that Jordan stabbed the suspect on his hand, which resulted in a scuffle. Both men then reportedly fell to the ground, where the suspect proceeded to stab Jordan several times with a knife.
When Stabroek News visited the scene of the killing, a large pool of dried blood was seen on the pathway leading to the power station’s office.
