Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTY&SC) male Cricketer-of-the-Year Kevin Sinclair is humbled by the prestigious award and merits his achievement to hard work.
The 18-year-old all-rounder was deemed the male Cricketer-of-the-Year when the club hosted its 28th annual awards ceremony on Sunday at the St. Francis Training Center, Port Mourant while his fellow all-rounder Kevlon Anderson was adjudged runner-up. Shemaine Campbelle won the female Cricketer-of-the-Year award.
“Well you know hard work pays off and I will never stop working hard to make my club and country proud,” Sinclair stated.
According to the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) President and RHTY&SC CEO and Secretary, Hilbert Foster, Sinclair has been on of the leading players at the club scoring over 1000 runs last year. He was also among the wickets while leading them to a number of titles.
Sinclair pointed out that for the last two years he has been in the form of his life, taking wickets and scoring runs. Since 2016, Sinclair said his development as a player has grown tremendously beginning with a title win over Albion for the first time in five years in the New York Businessmen tournament where he, along with Anderson both notched up centuries. Sinclair was declared Man-of- the-Match in that tournament and the Most Valuable Player. The rising star is also the captain of the Berbice Under-19 team, recently winning the Guyana Cricket Board/ Hand In Hand Mutual Fire and Life Insurance Three-day tournament and playing undefeated in the 50-over version of the match with a chance to complete the double when they play Select Under-17 in the final soon.
According to the young man, everything is happening for him this year and he is dedicated to bettering his career as a cricketer with the hopes of one day donning the maroon colors and representing the West Indies side at the senior level. The right handed batsman was also selected to tour with the West Indies Under-16 a few years ago but due to circumstances missed the opportunity.However, his aim this year is to make the West Indies Under-19 team.
“My goal for this year is to make it back into the Guyana Under-19 team and dominate the West Indies Regional Under-19 tournament.” a humble Sinclair told Stabroek Sport. While Sinclair admitted that his limited overs cricket was not up to standard in the Regional tournament last year, he had a fairly successful run in the longer format and is already working on his game as he stated “the only way to achieve what you want is to work for it.
