Charlestown Secondary were crowned South Georgetown Zone champions after a 48-run victory over Tucville Secondary in the Guyana Cricket Board/Demerara Mutual Life Assurance Society/ National Sports Commission/National Secondary Schools Cricket League
(GCB/DMLAS/NSC/NSSCL) at GNIC, Woolford Avenue yesterday.
With the match reduced to a 20-overs-a-side clash, Charlestown raced to 113-5 then restricted Tucville to 65 all out in 13.2 overs.
Tucville regretted the decision to bowl after winning the toss as Raymond Bandhu and Kevin Gordon added 48 for the first wicket before Gordon departed for 15.
Bandhu made a fighting 23 to follow up his 48 in the last match but Leon Chesney accounted for the wicket of the pair.
This set the platform for Brandon Volney to come in and hammer an unbeaten 30. Marlon Boele and Chesney took 2-13 and 2-23 respectively.
Tucville stuttered in the chase as Ravi Hanoman continued his fine form, picking up 4-12. With both openers in the shed for eight runs each, Boele and Chesney revived the innings with 13 and 15 respectively but they were the only batsmen to reach double figures.
Bandhu followed up his good knock with the bat to claim 2-22 from his four overs while Colin Smartt, Dante Sookram and Kelvin Gordon took a wicket each.
The Zone champions will now clash with North Georgetown Secondary playing Charlestown tomorrow while Charlestown Secondary will take on Chase Academic Foundation on Monday with North Georgetown and Chase Academic Foundation battling on Wednesday at Everest.
The three teams are scheduled to play each other in a round robin format for the Georgetown inter-zone title.
