All roads will lead to the Vergenoegen Sports Club ground tonight, when Uitvlugt face-off with Eagles in the final of the inaugural Big Yard Auto Sale ‘West Side Super 4’ Knockout Championship from 21:00hrs.
According to tournament co-coordinator, Errol Beard, “The final is expected to be thrilling match between an experienced team and an emerging side. The spectators will be treated to a spectacle and the best side will win.”
He further added, “Uitvlugt has always been a formidable team from the West Demerara area, but Eagles have started to emerge as side capable of challenging for honours, so a keenly contested match will be on show.”
Uitvlugt who stormed into the finale, following a 4-1 victory over home side Vergenoegen FC, will start the match as the favourite.
The talented roster which is managed by Orville Bobb, features several high profile and experienced players such as Leron Charles, Trayon Bobb, Jamal Harvey, Seon Bobb and Daniel Floy.
On the other hand, Eagles FC of Stewartville earned their berth to the championship match, following a 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory over traditional giant Den Amstel, after regulation and extra time ended 2-2.
The youthful unit will miss the services of dynamic forward Seon Miller who received a red card in the bruising semi-final clash. An improved performance from the entire team will now be required to alleviate the absence of their talismanic forward.
Meanwhile, Den Amstel will lock horns with the hosts in the third place playoff from 19:00hrs.
Winner of the event will pocket $100,000 and a trophy, while the runner-up collects $40,000 and the corresponding accolade.
The third and fourth placed unit will receive $20,000 and $10,000 apiece and the respective trophy.
Sponsors of the event are Dwayne Steven Auto Sale, Dans Snackette Parika, Anita’s Fast Food Parika, Nicola’s Guinness Bar Tuschen, Naem Poultry Supply and Fat Head Guinness Bar Parika.
