The World Chess Federation (FIDE) has released its May 2018 Ratings and Guyana is included. The nation’s highest ranked chess player is Anthony Drayton who surpassed Wendell Meusa as the top achiever. Two months ago, Drayton and Meusa contested a playoff for the title of National Chess Champion of Guyana. Although Meusa won, he failed to hinder Drayton’s upward rise in the FIDE rank. The top ten local chess players according to the FIDE points system are:

The highest FIDE chess rating is held by Norwegian world champion Magnus Carlsen who is rated at 2843. Fabiano Caruana is 2822 in second place.
