A 70-year-old Guyanese national who was allegedly found with a quantity of cocaine hidden in his motorized wheelchair at the Maurice Bishop International Airport, Grenada on Saturday was yesterday charged and remanded to prison.
Derrick Matthew was yesterday charged with allegedly having in his possession 2.5 kilograms of cocaine.
He was denied bail and remanded to the Richmond Hill prison until May 15.
According to Grenadian police reports, Matthew was an outgoing passenger at the Maurice Bishop International Airport on Saturday where he was taken into custody following the discovery of the drugs.
A search was conducted on his motorized wheel chair which unearthed the drugs hidden under the chair seat.
At the time, Matthew was waiting to board an Air Canada flight destined to Toronto, Canada.
