A 20-year-old man was yesterday remanded to prison on an armed robbery charge, after he was accused of stealing a cellphone and text books, among other items.
The charge alleged that Lloyd Gittens, on April 26th, at Toucan Drive, Ruimveldt, being armed with a gun, robbed Malachi Richards of a black haversack valued $15,000, a Samsung Galaxy J7 cellphone valued $79,000, a wallet valued $2,000 and a quantity of text books valued $52,000; all amounting to $148,000.
Gittens denied the allegation.
Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield objected to bail being granted based on the seriousness of the offence and the fact that a gun was used to commit the act. He further stated that none of the items were recovered.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan adjourned the matter until May 16th, and placed the man on remand.
