Queen’s College is to undergo repairs to the tune of $11m, according to a press release from the Ministry of Education on Monday.
The decision came following reports of the physical facilities and other infrastructure of the school being in a dilapidated state.
The release from the ministry said that officers from the Department of Education, Georgetown along with an engineer from the Ministry of Education, visited the school on Monday, April 30th to conduct a site inspection.
The visit revealed that routine repairs and maintenance work were needed, these include:
a. Repairs to the roof of the east and west wings and the administrative building,
b. Painting, installation of cupboards, repairs to walls and ceilings of the science labs
c. Repairs to the stairway
d. Maintenance of the playground.
The release said that a decision was made to allocate $11,000,000 to be spent on works identified at items a-c while the Board of Governors and the Department of Education will address item d. Maintenance of the playground has been a major problem for the school and has been reported on in Stabroek News.
The rehabilitation work identified at items a-c will be done during the August vacation and the weeding is to be done by Friday depending on the prevailing weather conditions.
