A 32-year-old mechanic was yesterday remanded to prison after being charged with two counts of armed robbery, including a $2 million East Coast Demerara (ECD) heist, for which another man was charged on Thursday.
Shane Morgan appeared before the Georgetown Magistrate’s court yesterday, where he was read a charge alleging that he, on April 30, at Industry, ECD, while being armed with a gun, robbed Tahraj Boodhoo of $2,000,000 cash.
Morgan was not required to plead to this charge.
Police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield yesterday objected to bail being granted based on the serious nature of the offence, the fact that a gun was used in the commission of the crime, and the fact that Morgan was already charged for an offence of a similar nature.
Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan placed Morgan on remand and adjourned the matter until May 22, when it will be heard at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
Prior to appearing before the Chief Magistrate, Morgan had made an appearance at the Providence Magistrate’s Court, where he was read another armed robbery charge.
It had been alleged that Morgan, on April 26, at Eccles, East Bank Demerara, while armed with a gun, robbed Nazeema Chand.
Morgan also denied that allegation.
Magistrate Sunil Scarce placed the man on $200,000 bail and adjourned the matter until May 28.
On Thursday, Kacey Heyliger, 25, of 42 Shell Road, Kitty, was read a charge which alleged that on April 30, at Industry, while armed with a gun, he robbed Boodhoo of $2 million.
