A Mahaicony farmer was yesterday charged with the murder of Haslington, East Coast Demerara (ECD) labourer Seon Waldron, who was discovered floating in the Mahaicony Creek last week.
Deonarine Sasenarine, 49, called “Chow,” of Wash Clothes, Mahaicony, was read the charge when he appeared before Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Mahaica Magistrate’s Court.
Sasenarine is accused of murdering Waldron, called ‘Catty,’ 37, of Lot 33 Haslington South, ECD.
Sasenarine was not required to plead to the indictable charge and he was remanded to prison until June 11th.
Sasenarine was one of the two suspects held for questioning after Waldron’s body was found.
He was charged based on advice received from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The other suspect was released from police custody.
Waldron’s body was discovered floating in the Mahaicony River last Tuesday. At the time, he was only clad in his underwear.
A murder investigation was launched by the police after an autopsy revealed that Waldron died due to trauma sustained to his body and strangulation.
Information reaching this newspaper had revealed that a cattle farmer, of Enmore Pasture, picked up Waldron at his home on May 4th and took him to his farm, where he began to work as a labourer.
Waldron was last seen alive on May 5th, when he was reportedly drinking at a wedding house in Mahaicony.
The following day, the cattle farmer reported him missing at the Mahaicony Police Station.
His body was spotted floating in the river on May 8th.
