Four survivors, including two children from the horrific two-vehicle collision on the Kuru Kururu Public Road, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, are still hospitalised and are slowly recuperating.
The four persons remaining in the hospital are Prem Persaud, and his wife, Rookmin Persaud, both of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara and, two children Jada Enmore, 8 and Tyrese Arthur, 4.
A relative of the Persauds, Naveta (only name given) on Monday told Stabroek News that her uncle had undergone a third procedure that day, while her aunt had another surgery to rectify injuries which she had suffered to her foot and hand.
She noted that both of them have been complaining of severe pains from their injuries. The relative further explained that Lakeram Persaud, 21, and Nina Persaud, who were passengers in the minibus and had also been injured in the accident are expected to return to the hospital on Friday to undergo surgery. They had previously been discharged from the hospital a few days after the accident.
Meanwhile, Ewin Enmore, Jada’s father told Stabroek News that his daughter is out of the Intensive Care Unit where she had been hospitalized for almost a week. The child, he said, is now a patient in the Paediatric Ward at the Georgetown Hospital, where Arthur is also a patient.
Two Fridays ago, Shenella Hughes, the driver of the car, PMM 548, which had collided with a Route 42 minibus, BHH 8451, succumbed in the Intensive Care Unit. Her death came a day after Quinton Odle, 42, a seaman of 137 Blankenburg, West Coast Demerara. Hughes’ six-year-old daughter, Arianna Hughes had been the first fatality from the accident.
Around 5.30 pm, two Sundays ago, the car and the bus, which were travelling in opposite directions, collided, resulting in the occupants of both vehicles sustaining injuries. It is alleged that Shenella was driving at a fast rate, and as the vehicles approached each other, she drove into a pool of water, resulting in her losing control of the car and swerving into the path of the oncoming minibus.
Stabroek News was told that the passengers in the bus were returning from a Mother’s Day outing at one of the creeks along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway.
