Twenty-five-year-old Maryann Daby, who is accused of attempting to murder a Police Constable was yesterday further remanded to prison after making her second appearance in a city court.
Daby appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, where her attorney Mark Waldron made another application for bail. Waldron told the court of several other matters where persons were granted bail for similar charges.
Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that the investigation is incomplete as the ballistics report and two statements are outstanding.
The first charge against Daby stated that on May 13th, at Albert Street and Thomas Lands, Georgetown, with intent to commit murder, she discharged a loaded firearm at Constable 24785 Christopher Kissoon.
It was also alleged that on the same date and at the same location, Daby had a .32 pistol in her possession, without being a licensed firearm holder. The final charge stated that she was also in possession of six live .32 rounds without being a licensed firearm holder.
Previous reports stated that Constable Kissoon was at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) when he heard gunshots. On checking what was taking place, the constable saw Daby and went to speak to her. Daby became annoyed, allegedly put the gun to his head and squeezed the trigger. However, the weapon did not go off.
