Just as he predicted, Elton ‘The Guyanese Gladiator’ (TGG) Dharry has continued his march up the world bantamweight rankings following his victory last month.
When the calendar flipped to June yesterday, TGG was listed at number 12, three spots up this month from last month’s World Boxing Association (WBA) ranking.
Dharry had told Stabroek Sport that he would elevate his status in the rankings following his unanimous victory against game Mexican, Oscar Mojica on May 18 in Queens, New York.
Dharry, 32, won the 10-round affair, 98-92×2 and 95-94 on the score cards to improve his record to 23-5-1.
The Brooklyn based prize fighter currently on a 20-fight win streak, disclosed yesterday that his time in the gym and in the ring has been paying dividends as he gears up for a world title crack later in the year or sometime early in 2019.
TGG who last fought here in January, said he plans to be back in the ring in or before August possibly in the 592 or in North America.
“For now I plan to do something small by August, but definitely before the year end I want something big, so we will try to stay busy and perhaps get a big fight year end.” His ultimate aim is to win a world title for Guyana. (Emmerson Campbell)
