Chrysanthemums are also commonly called Mums. The blooms come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes and in a range of colours; the most popular colours are yellow, white, purple, and red.
There are 500 cultivars of this flower some of which are: Pompons, Buttons, Daisy, Cushions and Spider.
Plant Mums in a sunny spot in well-drained soil. They are easy to grow from roots, cuttings and seeds. The plants usually flower about three months after they are sown, and the flowering period is long, which is one reason Mums are popular. Another reason would be the bright colours of the blooms.
Plants can be pinched while still in the seedling stage to make them grow bushy. If they grow tall, they may need staking. Fertilize your Mums with Miracle Gro Bloom Booster when plants are ready for blooming. Cut back dead flowers to prolong blooming.
Until next week, Happy Gardening.
