A pedestrian was yesterday afternoon fatally struck on the Soesdyke Public Road, East Bank Demerara by a motor car after he allegedly ran across the road.
The dead man has been identified by the police as Lester Oselmo, 36, of Lot 152 Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara. The accident occurred sometime around 2.30 pm.
Police yesterday said that at the time of the accident, the motor car PHH 4810 was being driven by a resident of Wortmanville, Georgetown.
“The motor car was proceeding south along the … Soesdyke Public Road, East Bank Demerara when the driver alleged that the pedestrian suddenly ran across the road from east to west into his driving path and a collision occurred,” police said yesterday.
Oselmo fell to the ground as a result of the impact. He sustained injuries to his head and about his body. He was immediately picked up and rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was examined by doctor and moments later pronounced dead on arrival.
A breathalyzer test conducted on the driver tested negative. The driver is currently in police custody assisting with investigation.
