Mahendra Bhagwandin edged Richard Haniff to take the title in yesterday’s 15thedition of the Grand Coastal Golf Classic at the Lusignan Golf Club, East Coast Demerara.
With better weather this weekend, Bhagwandin and Haniff were the two front runners early on but Haniff failed to capitalize on the lead with just four holes to go.
In the end Bhagwandin finished 65/20 while Haniff settled at 66/13. Club President Aleem Hussain finished third with 70/11 and Miguel Oviedo copped fourth with 70/28
According to the new champion, “He pushed me to up my game when he told me how well he had done so far. I decided to take over from there.”
Daby, in congratulating the winners, thanked the club for the opportunity to be of support and expressed Grand Coastal’s willingness to continue to support golf in Guyana. In responding on behalf of the club, Hussain thanked Grand Coastal sincerely.
Daby was also awarded honorary member of the club as a token of appreciation for the stellar partnership between the club and the company which saw partnerships that gave guests special packages at the club.
Many of the recent previous year’s winners participated in the tournament, however only Haniff and Hussain were in the winners row.
Prizes were also won by Roy Cummings (Longest Drive); Richard Haniff (Best Gross).
