A 24-year-old farmer was yesterday charged with stealing solar panels valued at nearly half a million dollars from Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI).
It is alleged that Omar Castello on May 21st at Moruca, stole three solar panels, valued $450,000 and which were the property of GWI.
Castello pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield made no objections to bail being granted, while noting that the panels were recovered.
Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus subsequently granted Castello his release on $100,000 bail.
Meanwhile, another man was charged with receiving the solar panels from Castello
The charge against Uklana France stated that on May 22nd, at Moruca, he received three solar panels, valued $450,000 and which were the property of GWI, from Castello.
France denied the allegation.
He was also charged with assaulting a police officer who was carrying out his duties on April 23rd.
France was placed on $100,000 bail on the receiving stolen property charge, while he was released on self-bail on the assault charge. All the matters were adjourned until July 3rd.
