Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo on Thursday bemoaned government’s sloth in appointing a Board for the Guyana Power and Light Company which has been without one since January of this year.
“That is a big corporation and they are raking in billions but from January to now they don’t have a Board,” Jagdeo lamented.
“A board will take you five minutes to put in place,” he added.
This newspaper reached out to Minister of Public Infrastructure, David Patterson to find out the reason for the utility company being without a board for over five months. He returned a message to send a text but he never replied once the question was posed.
Jagdeo said that the corporation was a key one in which millions of state dollars’ decisions are made and he could not see why it has been left without an oversight body for so long.
In February of 2016, proprietor of the Pegasus Hotel, Robert Badal was sworn in as Chairman of GPL but his tenure came to an end in the same month of this year.
