Dear Editor,
All too often we read complaints in the newspapers and rarely do we hear of the follow up to what the response was to the complaint.
On May 11, 2018 I was injured falling on a bridge at the NAREI Pouderoyen branch. Your newspaper carried a letter I wrote in your Sunday May 13, 2018 edition: `Injured after falling through NAREI bridge’.
I received calls from CEO of NAREI, Dr. Oudho Homenauth and Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr. Patrick Chesney.
Both expressed shock and embarrassment at what had happened and apologised to me for the incident. I am well aware that these gentlemen are not personally responsible for what happened on that bridge, but they understand a basic concept many agencies and organisational heads in Guyana lack.
The management and staff of NAREI are aware that I have no personal axe to grind with them, and we are all interested in a better Guyana where persons are held accountable.
I commend Mrs. Blair in the CEO’s secretariat and the staff in the admin and finance office for showing interest in my well-being.
For the record, I have no permanent or severe injuries. Safety being most paramount, my interest was to ensure this does not happen to anyone.
We should all be happy that at least one government agency accepts responsibility for its actions that are detrimental to the public and is taking measures to correct it promptly.
Other agencies like EPA to whom complaints have been made against can learn from this incident.
Yours faithfully,
Mark Jacobs
