Guyana defeated host nation Barbados 79-68 to clinch their three-match Internat-ional Basketball Series 2-1 Sunday at Sir Garfield Sobers Complex, St. Michael, Barbados.
Captain Stanton Rose led the way with 15 points, nine assists and eight rebounds while Ray Victor chipped in with 13 points, seven rebounds and Felice Hamilton added 11 points.
Assisting with nine and eight points each were Anthony Moe and Travis Belgrave.
For Barbados, Andre Lockhart tallied 13 points, five rebounds and four assists while Junior Moore contributed 10 points and five rebounds.
Ricardo Jemmott amassed nine points and eight assists while Deroni Hurley scored nine points and had five rebounds.
With the series locked 1-1 after Guyana prevailed in game two, the visitors seized the early lead as the first period ended 24-20.
The Guyanese built on their advantage in the second quarter, recording 22 points while restricting the Barbadians to 16, to enter the halftime interval ahead at 46-36.
Further distance was placed between the teams in the pivotal third period as Guyana outscored Barbados 16-9 to lead 62-45 heading into the final period. Barbados avoided a heavy defeat as they outscored the visitors 23-17 in the fourth quarter.
The tour was utilized to select the core of the squad for the 2018 CBC Championship in Suriname, from July 24th-30th.
Guyana will feature in group-A alongside host Suriname, St Lucia, Grenada and St Vincent and the Grenadines.
Group-B comprises Barbados, Bermuda, Antigua & Barbuda, Haiti and Montserrat.
