A cosmetologist, who was allegedly found with 21 pounds of cannabis in her suitcase at the Eugene F Correia International Airport last week, was yesterday remanded to prison on a ganja trafficking charge.
Shareesa Tappin, also known as “Shero,” 23, was read the charge by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown.
The charge stated that on June 6th, at the Eugene F Correia International Airport, Tappin had 9.660 kilogrammes (equivalent to 21.29) pounds of cannabis in her possession for trafficking.
Tappin, of 56 West Ruimveldt, denied the charge.
Police prosecutor Gordon Mansfield told the court that the cannabis was found in the suitcase of the accused, which had her name and other particulars. He noted that Tappin was an outgoing passenger on a LIAT flight, destined for Grenada, at the time of the discovery.
Mansfield objected to bail being granted to Tappin since no special reason was given to the court.
As a result, the Chief Magistrate remanded Tappin to prison and adjourned the proceedings until June 19th, when a hearing is slated for the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court 2.
