Linden Technical Institute (LTI) maintained their unbeaten run in the Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG)/Linden Amateur Basketball Association (LABA) Secondary School U19 Basketball Championship, humbling Mackenzie High 67-51 on Tuesday.
Billed as the battle of the heavyweights at the Mackenzie Sports Club, Hard-Court, Linden, LTI made light work of Mackenzie High led by the trio of Jamal Gilkes, Daniel Lee and Dillon Pellew.
Gilkes led the rout with a game high 21 points, with Lee the next best scorer with 17 points. Chipping in with 12 invaluable points was Pellew.
On the other side, Leon Benjamin battled to 21 points, while Yannick Tappin recorded 17 points. Meanwhile, Wisburg Secondary dismissed Christianburg/Wismar Secondary 55-37.
It was a clinical performance from Wisburg, who out comfortably led at the end of the first half 32-20. Wisburg then outscored their opponent by a 23-17 score line in the second stanza to secure the result.
Jonathan Copeland led all scorers with 18 points in the victory. He was closely followed by Keyon Davidson with 17 points. For the loser, Tremaine Brown and Edson Emmanuel tallied 11 and nine points respectively.
Similarly, New Silvercity Secondary mauled Harmony Secondary 43-24. The clash was effectively sealed at the end of the first half, as New Silvercity secured a commanding 24-10.
New Silvercity outhustled their opponent 19-14 to seal the outcome. Keifer Tappin was the primary threat for the victors with 18 points, while Jaleel Wagner and Andy Williams amassed seven points each.
For Harmony, Delroy Bell played a lone hand with 14 points. The tournament continues tomorrow [Friday] at the same venue. At 14:30hrs, LTI will faceoff with New Silver City, while Harmony will lock horns with Mackenzie High from 16:30hrs.
