In what is expected to be an India tour of the West Indies next year, Minister of Social Cohesion, with responsibility for sports, Dr George Norton said a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) will be presented in parliament for the hosting of matches in Guyana.
While Norton did not say when the MoU would be presented, he indicated that a meeting was held on Tuesday where several key issues relating to Guyana hosting matches coming up, one of which was the hosting India in 2019.
According to various reports, it is expected that India will tour the Caribbean after the World Cup for three tests, five One Day Internationals (ODI) and one T20 international between around July.
India last toured the West Indies in 2017, winning the five ODIs 3-1 but did not come to Guyana.
The last time India came to the Guyana was back in 2002 where West Indies won the test series 2-1 in what has been described as their most significant series win in the millennium under the coaching and captaincy of Roger Harper and Carl Hooper. West Indies lost the ODI 2-1.
It was reported earlier, Honorary Secretary of the Guyana Cricket Board, Anand Sanasie was hopeful of Guyana making a successful bid to host at least two of the ODIs at the National Stadium, Providence which is the only venue to host International Cricket in Guyana.
Guyana is expected to have a packed itinerary with Bangladesh set to play two ODIs in July while the Caribbean Premier League is expected to host several matches in August-September before the International Cricket Council Women’s World T20 comes to these shores in November.
