A 17-year-old was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with possession of a pistol and matching ammunition, which police say were found on him during a search in Charlestown.
Collin Denny, 17, of Lot 41 Charles and Howes streets, Charlestown, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in Georgetown.
The charge stated that on June 13th, at Howes Street, Charlestown, he had in his possession a .32 pistol without being the holder of a firearm licence.
Denny was also read a charge which stated that on the same day and at the same location, he had a live round of .32 ammunition in his possession without being the holder of a firearm licence.
According to Police Prosecutor Gordon Mansfield, on the day in question, police were on patrol duty in Charlestown, where the accused was in the company of six others. The police subsequently approached him and carried out a search of his person, which allegedly led to the discovery of a firearm in his possession. Mansfield further stated that when Denny was asked whether he was a holder of a firearm licence, he remained silent.
Denny pleaded not guilty to the charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate McLennan. Subsequently, Denny was remanded and the matter was transferred to Court 3 and adjourned until July 4th.
